Product Description

"Practicing Silence"

Twenty years ago Beatrix made the first practicing silence pin. "I went to parties and when I wanted to be just an observer, I pointed at the pin and I became a listener. I wanted to be there...I wanted to be in a quiet way in the middle of it. I wanted to be in charge of letting New York in and deciding when to talk or when only to listen. It gives you that freedom. You point at the pin and smile; you are not offensive; you are decisive for yourself. While being polite and kind, you do this for yourself."

Social Impact

For every piece of jewelry made, Article 22 partners with Mines Advisory Group in Laos to clear 3 square meters of bomb littered land. Article 22 also donates 10% back into the local community to aid in projects that range from micro-loans to providing electricity to further faciliate economic development.

About the Brand

Transforming weapons into ethical and sustainable jewelry, Article 22 has created a social enterprise in Laos that supports artisans by employing them to make beautiful up-cycled jewelry. Made by melting and recasting shrapnel from the 80 million unexploaded bombs, Article 22 creats wood and ash molds for their unqiue pieces.

Partnered with the Mines Advisory Group in Laos, at least 3 square meters of bomb littered land is cleared for every piece of jewelry made, leaving the land safer for citizens and allowing the land to be cleared for farming to promote trade and the economic stability of the area.

Lastly, ARTICLE 22 donates 10% to the Village Development Fund, which invests in income generating activities and the creation of sustainable businesses to bring economic success to the local communities.
